Over the last week here in Australia, I can feel the first chill start to set into the air in the evenings. The Bostonian in me instinctually feels like I should be out shopping for school supplies when I start to feel the crisp fingers of autumn start to unfurl. And yet, being that’s it’s April, my northern hemisphere brain still can’t resist pastel colors and floaty chiffon dresses. They’re like a magnet tugging on my vintage-loving heart. And therein lies the dichotomy…
I was so excited to have the chance to collaborate with Love That Lingers for this post, a because as far as I’m concerned, this dress is everything that April should be and then some, regardless of your geographic location. Knowing that her days are numbered, I find myself bursting forth from my closet with the most summery looks I can find, to get one last lick of those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer….
Making the most of a look for me means careening full tilt into a that which inspires me (and we all know how much I love my themes). I know that there can be a bit of a derisive attitude towards “twee” dressing in the blogosphere, but I can’t help but love things sweet and ethereal. And sparkly. And girlie. If there are flowers on my dress, let there be flowers in my hair and flowers on my shoes! It’s hard to understand why a community who embraces self-expression through fashion would see fit to cast a negative eye over certain style choices. As for me, I fully embrace the cute!
The sewing nerd in me can never get over unique construction details – and this dress has them aplenty, from the perfect embroidered flowers blooming all over to the unique seaming at the front of the bodice (note to self: incorporate that into next dress design…) Needless to say, although summer is starting to make the rounds at the party, hugging people and gathering her coat, I plan to make her stay for one last drink and one last spin on the dance floor….
To help spread the vintage love and keep summer dancing in my heart just a little bit longer, Dawn has offered readers of The Dressed Aesthetic a coupon code for Love That Lingers! Use code KARASFRIENDS20 for 20% off anything in her lovely shop. I’ve spied a few swoon-worthy favorites already here, here and here. My heart says yes but my over-extended wallet (and in some cases, my ribcage) says no…but we’ll see how long my willpower lasts. I’m betting not long… 😉
I hope everyone is having a lovely start to the week!
xoxo
