Ahhhh sweet friends, that magical time of year is upon us. When we hear the crinkle of wrapping paper to the tune of “All I Want For Christmas”, while sneaking spiked eggnog and trying to keep the cat from eating the fake tree (and vomiting it up a few minutes later). But, most importantly: It’s time for my annual Lust List: Christmas Edition!
With the Turkey in the oven and the sounds of family swirling around my house, I sat down during a quick lull to put together my annual list of Black Friday Deals! I love shopping small around the holidays, and have really embraced getting huge chunks of Christmas shopping done before December even starts, when I can snag some amazing deals!
Every time a new year rolls around, when the noisemakers have been put away and the champagne headache has worn off, I like to take some time to reflect on the year before me. Usually, I go through the major milestones from each month, reflecting on all that came to pass. This year I’ve decided to do something different – which is to reflect on some of my favorite sewing projects from 2021. Cause let’s be honest…not much else of note was able to happen!
That magical time of year is upon us, where you start to hear sleigh bells off in the distance and your streets are alive with twinkle lights and cheer. Is also means the semester is winding down (talk about cheer!) and we start to bid farewell to another year.
As I sit here clacking away on my keyboard, I’m enjoying a tradition that hasn’t been able to happen for several years. Thanks to the wonders of science and the fact that they released the vaccine for 5-12 year olds, my sister, brother-in-law, and niece made the trek all the way down to NC (and I do mean trek. None of us felt safe flying yet, so they bundled into the car and zoomed through 13 hours of pavement and rest stops).
Generally, in my daily perusals of IG or some other addictive social media platform, I will occasionally come across the original ad for dresses that I own. I swear it never gets old to see a garment hanging safely in your closet on the pages of the vintage Sears Catalog, imagining a time when I could simply order my dream dress in multiple for 3.99 a piece…
Well, what a year this has been. Safe to say it ended up the way NONE of us would have expected when we turned the calendar to January 2020. I can hardly believe that the entire world can literally turn upside down in such a short timespan. Never before has a year moved so glacially slow and at warp speed at the same time…
It’s hard to believe it, but it’s that time of year again. This has been such a strange year in so many respects…but one thing that will never change: time just keeps on moving forward. I barely blinked and here we were, at the dawn of December again.
This was definitely a Thanksgiving like no other. In years past, one of my favorite parts of the holiday was the annual visit from my sister, brother-in-law, and niece, Brynn, who would bring energy and effervescence into our home here in NC. Thanks to the pandemic, Zoomsgiving is what’s on the menu. But, I can think of nothing to be more grateful for than those who will forego time with family and friends to keep each other safe.
And just like that, we’ve bid farewell to 2019 (and the 2010’s) and started a new decade. When I was a kid, time would never move fast enough – I simply couldn’t wait for the next milestone. For my birthday, for summer vacation, for the single of sleigh bells signaling Santa was on his way. Nowadays, time moves so quickly I practically get whiplash, and all I want to do is slow it down. It’s crazy to think another year has passed.
