Biker Chic

Biker Chic - The Dressed Aesthetic

I remember watching Grease as a kid. I was always a huge fan of musicals (what can I say? People bursting into song really does it for me) and the poodle skirts had me at hello. As your quintessential “girl next door,” you might imagine I would dream of one day snagging the role of Sandy. But, I never liked the way she changed herself for a guy. Even at 15, I had the wherewithal to know that spandex and a boyfriend didn’t happiness make…

I think there’s something to be said about theatre existing as a place of escape – a place to be someone other than who you are. Or to explore parts of yourself that exist, but you might be a bit afraid of. True to escapism at its finest, my sweet rule-follower self would fantasize about what it would be like to slip my arms into Rizzo’s Pink Lady jacket. To wear her attitude with rebellious flair, unconcerned with what other people thought.

The minute I saw this biker jacket at Sarsparilly, all sugar and spice meets just the right amount of rebel, I knew someone had found their way into my heart and managed to blend all sides of me….

In addition to having rebellion on the mind, safe to say that’s currently duking it out with a desperate desire to travel. I know we all are feeling more than a little cooped up, with yet another pandemic spike in our midst.

I’ve hunted for many years to find this covetable vintage Grand Canyon print skirt in my size. And no sooner did I give up the ghost than I spotted the lovely Bekah parting with hers. I’ve always been someone with an eye for scenic prints, but the colors – the bright blood orange mixed with pops of blue – really beckon me to a world within. Now, I haven’t actually been to the Grand Canyon, but we’re adding that one to the list of Must See Travel Destinations once this year+ of isolation is behind us…

Enter my perfect pairing: a little bit sweet, a little bit sassy, and a whole lot of need to venture to all corners of the world….

Instead of traveling to see one of the Great Wonders of the World, I’ve traveled today to my usual spot in my dining room, nestled between an orange cat and a stack of textbooks, working to prep for the upcoming semester. I’ve got a new course to develop and a whole new crop of students to virtually meet in less than a week.

It isn’t really lost on me that the Spring semester starts on January 20th, which feels like its imbued with layers of renaissance. I’m ready for a whole lot of rebirth. A whole lot of change. Ushering in the new and firmly shutting the door on the past. Needless to say, there is definitely no summer lovin’ lost between me and the current administration….

The countdown begins.
