To pay homage to all of your Northern Hemisphere folks and the glorious crisp weather you’re experiencing, I’ve decided to fall splendidly into autumn today! I’ve actually spied this dress popping up a fair bit around the interwebs lately – like there was a leaf-shaped bat symbol projected into the sky calling this dress to come out of her various places of hiding. Do you ever notice that happens a lot? As if thinking about a certain dress or speaking her name aloud shifts something in the universe, shaking her sisters out of the branches…
Seeing photos from home of the beautiful New England fall foliage always makes me a bit homesick. There really is nothing like watching the trees burst into flaming color. But, if I can’t be among the leaves, at least I can wear them! I suppose it’s rather poetic the way this vintage leaf print dress combines my two worlds so effortlessly – the vibrant green to represent the lush bloom of Spring here in Australia and all of its new beginnings, while the falling leaves with their hints of gold remind me my heart is never too far from home.
We’ve had an odd spate of chilly weather here in Perth. Well, more likely, the warm weather we had a few weeks ago simply lured me into a false sense of security. I am perpetually, irrationally frustrated by the change of seasons. I find myself complaining during each one that it’s too something – too hot, too cold, too rainy. But the minute it starts to shift, I start scrambling. Wait! No! I have those seasonally specific outfits I want to wear! As it turns out, I don’t do well with change…
Case in point, I found myself looking distrustfully at my alarm clock this morning – surely it can’t be Monday already? Not sure about you guys, but my weekend disappeared far too quickly in a whirlwind of sewing, lunches in the city, and getting to model some vintage beauties for Oh Henry Vintage (stay tuned!). So, it’s with a heavy heart that I’m taking my sassy, change-resistant, vintage-loving self and reluctantly falling forward into a week of meetings, dissections, and helping to calm the nerves of PhD students who are teetering just on the edge of success and madness. But that which we put our minds to, we will conquer.
What are you conquering this week?
xoxo
