Well 2017, we are NOT off to the best start. What. A. Month. I know we’re all still reeling from the events of the new year, not the least of which is the chaos surrounding our new “leadership” (and I use those words very, very loosely). This has been a trying month for us all. The only hope I feel is in the upwelling of unity and support – not just around the country but around the globe.
What is it about a red dress? The color of fire, of passion. The kind of color that inspires songs. That turns heads when you walk into a room. it doesn’t matter what kind of week I’m having, if I can dig a red dress out of my wardrobe, suddenly I get a sassy twinkle in my eye and a smirk playing at the side of my mouth. Red is easily the color of confidence.
We all love to have those special pieces – the ones waiting patiently in the back of our wardrobe, ready for a flick of tulle and a twinkle in your eye that promises a special occasion. But let’s be honest – more often than not, we find ourselves reaching for things in our closet for the every day. For our hectic workweek, our busy weekends. Good news everyone – I survived my first day of school! Truth be told, it was a pretty easy first day. As my classes don’t start until Monday, it was very similar to every other day before: namely, write lectures frantically. The main difference being that this time, I actually had to get dressed before noon. Am I the only one who relishes being able to work in her pajamas??
Although my heart sings over true vintage – the heart stopping details, the gossamer thin fabrics, the attention to detail – I’m a gal who embraces her vintage-inspired frocks with fervor. For a lot of reasons – particularly the modern sizing, mashine-washability, and the fact that I don’t have to be quite so precious with them. But to be very honest, more often than not, it’s when a print is just too freakin’ cute that mere mortals such as myself cannot resist.

I love how this blog has introduced me to so many amazing people – from other bloggers and Instagrammers, to new vintage shops and vintage-inspired retailers. Getting to know the faces behind brands and connect with people around the world is what the net was built for, and I’m always excited to have my horizons broadened with each new collaboration I do.
Although I love a day when I can get fancy – lacquering my nails and cinching myself into heavenly chiffon – there are other days when a gal needs a dress that’s going to get the job done. Today I’m finding myself racing around, running errands, which includes a meeting on campus. Thus, I need my outfit to serve double duty today – to be comfortable and practical, but also professional and put together.
Well folks, it’s officially that time of year. No sooner had the Thanksgiving turkey been basted and the tryptophan haze lifted than my panic set in for Christmas. I realize it’s supposed to be a magical time of year, but we all know the truth: It’s a time full of stress and lists and (if we’re lucky) copious amounts of mulled wine.
For some reason, I can’t get the “Goodbye” song out of my head. You know, the “Na na na-na…na na na-na…hey hey hey…goodbye!” Don’t you hate when you hear a whip of a song somewhere and find yourself singing it FOREVER? The only cure for it is usually to hunt down the song and play it in it’s entirety. Then, whatever it is in your soul that was craving that particular song is satisfied and will move on to other things.
