The end of October notoriously marks the spookiest time of the year. I remember how much I used to love Halloween as a kid. My sister and I would usually play a part in making our costumes – store-bought costumes were never for us. One year my mom made me the most amazing marshmallow costume that I was ridiculously proud of – until some of my sister’s friends threatened to toast me. It wasn’t so fun after that…
I can’t say that any ghosts or goblins have come out to play recently, but there’s definitely been my fair share of scenic print skirts and floral appliqué. As one who is not a big fan of being scared (which includes avoiding haunted houses, horror movies, and even particularly creepy-looking children), I definitely prefer the more whimsical side to Halloween. We’re keeping it pretty low-key this year, but I always have a costume or two up my sleeve should the perfect occasion strike.
So, the advent of Halloween means that November is nearly upon us! Sheesh. I was seriously not ready yet. But to send October off properly, here’s a roundup of some of my favorite October looks (for full outfit details, feel free to check out the original post).
In keeping with the Halloween tradition, my November will definitely be taking on some zombie-esque qualities. I’m working on a teaching & learning initiative that combines old school neuroscience with some pretty fancy cutting edge tools, including 3D printing. Basically, I’ve been using MRI to image a series of brains from different species and 3D printing them so students can pick up and get up close and personal with the central nervous system (minus the goo). Moving into the age of digital dissections, bioimaging and 3D printing has definitely pushed me into bonafide mad scientist territory. I may or may not have had a shark brain in my handbag these last few days. Just sayin’…
It’s funny the things that become my normal. Any exciting Halloween plans?
