The Kara Dress

The Kara Dress - The Dressed Aesthetic

There are a lot of wonderful things about blogging. I love having a space where I have full creative freedom. Where I can share everything from the minutiae of my day to the passion I have for a 1950’s Suzy Perette in my size on sale. And then there’s the people I’ve met – the amazing community I am lucky enough to be a part of. From other vintage aficionados to working with amazing small business owners, connecting to people around the world has definitely put the cherry on my blogging sundae.

With all of this feel-goodness going on, you would think I’d run the gamut of things to be excited about related to sending my thoughts into cyberspace. But just when I thought I had seen it all, the most amazing thing happened: One of my favorite vintage-inspired sellers, She’s Dynamite, named a dress after me. And my world literally exploded into a big ball of sparkly yellow glitter.

Ladies and gents, meet the Kara Dress. A two toned beauty with a fitted waist and the MOST twirly skirt. It’s made out of 100% cotton, color blocked in hues of the same family, which Stephanie can put together in just about ever color combination you can imagine. Because I’m me, I (of course) chose the two tones of sunshine and buttercup yellow, but you can go with a blue colorway, a pink, a purple, or let your creativity fly and build a dress in a rainbow of hues!

When this stunner arrived in my arms, I could just about cry – no better dress would be suited to my namesake. From her full skirt (two crinolines and counting), sunny hues, and the portrait collar of dreams, I was smitten (and seriously need to know how She’s Dynamite gets her corners so precise. Sewing goals). It was perfectly fitted to my liking (for reference, I’m a 35-36″ bust and 27-28″ waist and Stephanie kindly made her to my custom measurements, complete with long torso). It was happily snug without being overly so – because if a dress has my namesake, that means one must do Kara-type things when they wear it. That includes pizza.

The Kara dress retails for £145.00 (~$187 USD) and can be bought from the She’s Dynamite website. Stephanie and her company is based in the UK, and she hand makes each garment to order. Current wait time is 6-7 weeks, but it’s absolutely worth the wait. And by my calculations, it should arrive just in time for the winter thaw and for all of us to burst forth into Spring. If you want to make the Kara Dress yours and bring a dash of *me* into your closet, Stephanie has kindly offered a coupon code for my fabulous readers! Use code KARA10 for 10% off any color way of The Kara Dress through 19 Feb 2019.

I was truly honored that Stephanie felt I somehow embody this beautiful dress. It’s described as “one of the most fun and cheerful pieces I’ve ever made and it is guaranteed to put a smile on your face and brighten the day of anyone around you!” And it most certainly did that for me – every time I slip her over my head, I grin like a loon. The bright yellow cuts through today’s gloom perfectly. It reminds me that, even if I skip through my day oblivious, that my style might be putting a smile on someone’s face. Is possibly even inspiring them. Had changed them ever so slightly, so that they might go on, feeling worthy of celebrating themselves, and rock a dress they’ve been hiding from for years.

What’s your “You” dress?

xoxo
