After Midnight

After Midnight - The Dressed Aesthetic

We all know the timeless story of Cinderella. And whenever I think of it, it always conjures up images of the fairy tale. The gorgeous gown, the jeweled slippers, dancing with the handsome prince in a grand ballroom. But, I’m just as interested in the time after the clock chimes midnight. Where the coach turns back into a pumpkin. Where Cinderella goes home, kicks off her glass slipper and rubs her aching feet, takes off her bra and becomes the vulnerable, fresh-faced version of herself again.

The minute this Harvey Berin dressed popped up at Siglo Vintage, visions of Cinderella fantasies danced in my head. I loved the soft blue, the pintucks, the BOWS. Wearing this dress always brings out the princess in me. And then, true to form, after wearing it out to a lovely dinner and twirling a few times in the streets, right before I turned into a pumpkin, we head home to my second favorite thing (second only to the act of dressing up): shed the fancy, step into my comfiest pajamas, and snuggle in bed with my Mister to watch Netflix.

Mr Dressed always tells me I can get frocked up and frocked down more quickly than anyone he’s ever known. And it’s kind of true. I LOVE the act of luxuriating in getting ready. Taking my time doing my hair, putting a bit of extra care into my makeup. But, I can also go from messy hair and pajamas to Night Out in a good 10 minutes. Which is handy, because I tend to get dressed up to go to the grocery store.

On the flip side, the minute I come home from work, earn a kiss from my beau and drop my bag on the table, I am instantly in my pajamas. My husband says he swears he kisses me and takes his eyes off me for 3 seconds, only to turn back and find I have instantly devolved into Pajamas Goddess, with makeup off and hair up in a messy bun. Although I may not have a fairy godmother on hand to dress me up or melt away the magic, I definitely have a skill when it comes to turning myself into a comfortable, happy pumpkin at the end of the day.

What’s your coming home routine?
