All A Flutter…

All a Flutter... - The Dressed Aesthetic

Every year, I put together a holiday wishlist to help my family navigate the treacherous waters that is Christmas shopping. I like to put a range of items on there, based on things that have caught my eye over the last few weeks. Inevitably, there is an item or two that I try to sprinkle a little extra fairy dust upon, perhaps to telepathically communicate just how enamored I am with it. Enter this most perfect blouse designed by Alex Vinash.

There are some pieces that simply call to you – that speak to an inner longing. And my heart leapt when I opened one of my gifts from my Mom this Christmas and found yards of white netting and butterflies all aflutter tucked inside the tissue paper. This piece is a work of art, with shoulders as light as air. Never mind that I am firmly installed in my dining room, writing lectures 24/7. Ignore the fact that I have been housebound for the last 10 months, with the exception of a few neighborhood walks. Disregard a world where dinners out with friends and evening soirees have become a thing I almost can’t recall.

So help me, pandemic or not, I am all kinds of EXTRA today.

but moments,
and has time enough.

The Spring semester started last week, and I can say with confidence: I was so not ready for this. Without fanfare, in came the online lectures and student requests and Zoom meetings stacked on top of each other. Completely without my permission, our virtual life began again. This semester is likely to be a bit crazier than most, as I have two large grants to submit and a new course to prep. Although there is the bonus of being able to frantically write lectures in my pajamas, I truly miss the buzz and excitement of a new semester. I get so much energy from interacting with my students.

But, fear not. Today, my buzz and excitement is coming from an outfit fit for a fairy tale. With clouds for shoulders and butterflies ready to ride on the wind, I’m kind of feeling like there’s very little I can’t accomplish today…

Where are you getting your buzz lately?
