{Sewing}: The Counterdanse - The Dressed Aesthetic

My latest sewing project started as so many often do: with an Idea. At a few points in my vintage hunting, I would come across vintage painted mexican skirts or vintage square dancing skirts that had images of dancing couples, with the figures wearing actual miniature skirts. I was so smitten with the 3D quality of them – the idea that there was a miniature world within the skirt, like when you hold up two mirrors opposite each other, creating smaller and smaller landscapes inside.

Happy Blog-a-versary!

Happy Blogaversary - The Dressed Aesthetic

As I type this, I’m sitting in an airport, returning home after yet another one of life’s crazy adventures. And it got me thinking of a different kind of adventure I embarked on only just a year ago – the kind of adventure that epitomizes the whole “One small step for man…” concept, because really all it involved was a deep breath and a button that said, “Go Live.” The Dressed Aesthetic turns one today!

{Favorites}: Fly by Feb - The Dressed Aesthetic

Another month has come and gone, and this one was a serious whip-lash inducing frenzy of work, work and more work! I have to say, for being a shortened month, I felt as though I crammed in more than usual. It was certainly productive – from the successful course (which was done and dusted as of Friday), progress on a few new projects, and I somehow managed to not twitch myself into an oblivion despite the over abundance of caffeine.

Smart, Sassy & Stylish: Have Clothes, Will Travel - The Dressed Aesthetic

In 2015, I added a fabulous feature to The Dressed Aesthetic where I introduce you to smart and stylish woman I find inspiring and show you a portal into their corner of the interwebs (you can read about my last SSS Lady here). It’s been amazing to get to know these femmes better, and add to a growing community of beautiful, amazing women that I draw inspiration from daily. So, here’s the latest installment of  Smart, Sassy and Stylish!

My Makeup Must-Haves

{Beauty Bar} : My Makeup Must-Haves - The Dressed Aesthetic

I get a fair few questions about my makeup routine. Truthfully, I can’t say that I have a ‘routine’ per se – primarily because I see makeup as a fun adventure every morning and I usually go with whatever suits my mood on a given day. But, I have a few tried and true cosmetics that I reach more more often than others and I definitely have a few favorite brands. So, I thought I’d take the mystery out of my makeup routine and share my makeup must-haves.

Resolutions: A Year in Review

Resolutions: A Year in Review - The Dressed Aesthetic

As another year draws to a close, I can’t help but sit, The Thinker-style, and ponder on what shape I want 2016 to take. To prepare myself for the inevitable questions of what my New Years Resolutions will be. Now, my cynical self tends to be squarely in the camp of “you can make resolutions any time you choose” where, for all intents and purposes, NYE is just an arbitrary date. But, my silver-lining self thinks the world can do with a few reminders now and then. And I have to admit, this time of year definitely lends itself to reflection and resolve…

Very Merry

Very Merry - The Dressed Aesthetic

I hear those sleigh bells jingling, ring-ting-tingling here! From our Dressed family to yours – wishing you a merry, sparkly, love-filled holiday season. I’m unspeakably grateful to you all for following along with my fashionable adventures this year – that’s been the best Christmas gift a vintage-loving gal can ask for.

Frock On

Frock On - The Dressed Aesthetic

Okay, we all know I love to dress up. I get fancy for a Tuesday. So I practically start to quiver with excitement when I get to get seriously frocked up. And not run-of-the-mill, simply wearing a dress fancy. I’m talking: Glitter. Tulle. Heels so high I become Amazonian. Eyeshadow so glittery I am mistaken for a disco ball. Skirts so poofy they need their own zip code. That level of fancy. Because standing under the mistletoe, welcoming the jolly fat guy in a red suit, ringing in the new year – these are not things to be taken lightly…

Pin Up Persuasion

Smart, Sassy and Stylish: Pinup Persuasion - The Dressed Aesthetic

Back in October, I added a feature to The Dressed Aesthetic where I introduce you to smart and stylish woman I find inspiring and put some welcome, positive messages across our retinas (you can read about my last SSS Lady here). I think it’s important in this day and age, where all I seem to see are ladies in competition with each other, to instead lift one another up and celebrate the awesomeness that comes into our orbit.
