Word on the street is that the phrase “matchy-matchy” has gotten a lot of negative press – it’s apparently the thing you want to avoid. A fashion faux pas if you will. However, there are certain times and certain outfits that just inspire me to match all the things. And this is generally the case when those things involve clothing masquerading as fruit (eh hem). Because if you are a gal who is very into her vintage and have acquired a fair few pieces of comestable-adorned clothing, every so often the perfect grape-appliqued beauty will come along and you’re brain will immediately ping, “Yeah. I have a bag for that.”
I spied this deadstock Carlye beauty on the Girl Can’t Help it IG feed, one of my favorite haunts in San Diego. Despite my endless love for fruit-print ANYTHING, I had yet to own a grapes print dress. So needless to say, a quick chat with the lovely owner Gail and before I could say “Wine Not”, this dress was flying merrily across the country to me. And she certainly didn’t disappoint. Perfect grapes backed with some fluff to make them stand in sharp relief to the blue linen background. And not being one to ever obey any fashion rule whatsoever, I got my “matchy matchy” game face on and just went for it. Grape purse? Check. Grape shoes? Check. “Heard it Through the Grapevine” playing in my head as I sashayed down the hall to start my Tuesday? Check and Check…
Today definitely requires a soundtrack, as the countdown begins for my trip to Brazil! In two weeks I’m off to a conference where all shark nerds can get together and appropriately nerd out. And although I have a fair few tasks to complete before I head off, I’m actually really excited to board another plane and jet off somewhere exciting. It took me a little while to recover before the thought of overseas travel didn’t sound exhausting. But, as is the way with the magic healing powers of time, now it simply feels exhilarating.
So, grape-themed outfit on and passport at the ready, time to kick this week into high gear. I’ve got quite a few meetings on campus today, and then I need to buckle down and finish off a few projects. There’s nothing like the satisfying feeling of ticking things off my list, followed by the even more satisfying feeling of matching today’s look with a well deserved glass of wine at the end of the day.
