The lovely, last sighing strains of my Christmas holiday have come to a close, and I’m gearing up for a very busy few months ahead. Sigh. The first day back at work after a blissfully long holiday is always the hardest. Particularly without the comfort of (what became my) daily afternoon nap to ease the blow. The stacks of emails in my inbox, the meeting requests, and publications that I planned to get to once I was back. Well, I’m officially back and they’re demanding attention. God, I miss my hammock already….
Given my shifting mental state, I thought the gorgeous ombre floral print on this 1950’s dress from Blue Fennel suited the occasion perfectly, fading from the relaxation of vacation into the frenzied activity that’s awaiting me at the lab today. I am definitely the sort who believes in dressing for the mood you want, not the mood you have, and that the perfect vintage floral dress can brighten up any day.
I really had an incredible break – I was able to put in some serious hours into the most detail-oriented aspect of my latest dressmaking project, I made it through about 1/3 of my sewing pile (if you knew how big it was, you would know that’s a major feat), and I feng shui’d both my makeup cabinet and my wardrobe and did a major clear out of both. As to just how much lounging I did over the break, well… I never kiss and tell. 😉
New Year, new start, new levels of motivation. I can hardly believe we’re already midway through January (which apparently happened while I was doing all of that lounging), and I need to hit the ground running. Starting with some serious amounts of coffee. On an iv drip.
