Top of the Class - The Dressed Aesthetic

Though a bit of a departure from my normal fit and flare silhouette, sometimes a gal needs a skirt that hugs her curves. I’ve had this Bettie Page pencil skirt for years and it always seems to find its way off of the shelf and into my arms on days when I need to earn a few gold stars. I don’t know why, but there’s something about today’s outfit that just screams “Apple for Teacher.” If that won’t earn me gold stars, I don’t know what will.

In true teacherly fashion, I’ve been getting organized for the year. Despite the technology at my fingertips, I still (and will probably forever) use an old-school, actual day planner. If you read my Liebster Award post, you know that I very rarely use the calendar on my iPhone (despite living with Mr. Tech himself). I can’t help it – I just love the feeling of scribbling things down and crossing them off with gusto. I love filling my schedule with post it notes, To Do lists, items in different color ink (red ink is birthdays, by the way), and still religiously tape important phone numbers in the back. Though not easy to admit, I even write things down I’ve already done just so I can have the satisfaction of crossing them off…

Maybe it’s just me, but there’s something so satisfying about those crisp, clean calendar pages. They will no doubt be scribbled all over and filled in in no time, but right now those empty pages seem wide open to opportunity. As I slowly started to cross out days and fill in the pages with future plans throughout the year today, I realized that 2016 is starting to take shape.

It’s funny half knowing what the future holds and the other half remaining a complete mystery. I guess no matter how much you try to plan things and make lists and keep yourself regimented, some things will always be up to chance. And maybe that’s what keeps life interesting. The not knowing.

So, what’s making your life interesting today?
