Lemon Zinger

Lemon Zinger - The Dressed Aesthetic

There is something so crisp and fresh and zesty about summer. The downside is, the humidity makes my hair do one thing and one thing only: lie straight and flat. Like a seal coming out of the water, it falls in sheets around my face. As a now-mature 30-something-year-old woman, I have decided to stop fighting City Hall and embrace the state my hair prefers to be. For the next few months, I predict fewer curls will grace these cyber pages. But, I’ve chosen to pick my battles and appreciate that my hair is its own independent woman. Cause when life gives you lemons….

Well, you accept them, mix a cocktail, and don your finest lemon-print vintage! Truthfully, few things make me happier than a fruit print. Except for maybe 3D appliqués. And when you mix them together, that’s when the magic happens. Back in 2018, I was alerted to a lemon-appliquéd beauty about to hit the interwebs (my love of Marjorie Montgomery knows no bounds and my network of vintage mavens sounded the alarm). Sadly, I was about 30 seconds too slow. At the time, I was at a conference in Brazil and was thwarted by South American internet.

Although missing out on a piece you love can be devastating in the moment, vintage is all about the patience. I knew she would find her way to me one day. And sure enough, her sister found me a year later…

A good friend of mine has been developing her amazing jewelry, pottery, and print-making business Citrus Parade. Like me, Michelle has an obsession with food-themed anything (what can I say? Fruit is inspiring). So, when she was having a gathering of friends to celebrate her recent marriage, I knew there was no better dress for the event. And although it’s been awhile since the soiree, I knew this fresh-squeezed beauty deserved her spot on the blog.

So, hair straight as an arrow, lemon-speckled dress at the ready, it’s time to attack the day and close the week strong. After an amazing long weekend in the Catskills (save for a stomach bug. Blettttch), I’m getting back into the swing of things with my new summer schedule. Today’s the day to be making lists and taking names, plotting out the next three months so that they don’t slide by in a flurry of summer nights and lemon cocktails.

Well okay. Maybe a few cocktails….

xoxo
