We’re entering into such a unique time of the year, where relaxation starts to rein triumphant. Since the start of December, I can feel everyone’s resistance slowly wearing, as work gives up her fight to the temptations of a relaxing Christmas holiday. There are more holiday parties, emptier hallways as the weeks wear on, and a general fading of the frenzied cloud of productivity that usually hangs over our building. I have to admit, I’m sitting right on the borderline – I have a few key things to check off my list before I officially start my holidays, but the tantalizing aroma of days spent languishing on the beach, taking long strolls in the sunshine, and putting up the away message on my email, are beckoning me forward. And oh, she’s mighty tempting that vacation!
Resistance is almost futile at this point. Christmas is nearly here! Even the stress of the holidays is giving way as Christmas shopping comes to an end and the fun parts can begin – the parties, the gift exchange, the sparkly tinsel strewn everywhere. I’ve been frantically tracking parcels as they zip around the world, but even those seem to be merrily making their way to the doorsteps they belong and the only thing left to do…is relax?
Whoa. I’m not sure I know how.
I‘ve never been very good at the whole “sit around and do nothing” thing, but I have to admit I am really looking forward to this break. I have big plans with my hammock. To read books for fun and try to make a dent in my sewing pile. To drink piña coladas and get caught in the rain. To don my favorite sundresses and forget the Big, Important responsibilities of work, and remember I have a responsibility to myself first.
Relaxation is usually a state of mind. So I’ve done as all Type A nerds do: I made a list. I’m checking it twice. I plan to finish off a few big things early next week, acknowledge the things that will just have to wait until January, and then run towards a glorious few weeks off with open arms yelling, “Free at last!”.
When do you start your Christmas vaca?
xoxo
