One Fine Day

I’ve come to realize that I probably wouldn’t fashionably survive in a place like New York City. Not that I am not fashionable, because I definitely rock my style to her fullest potential, but because I am fundamentally opposed to wearing all black clothing. And the New Yorkers are alllll about the all black ensemble. I’ve tried before…and I literally can’t do it. My fingers start twitching and I have to add a pop color somewhere to avoid my own madness.

When I lived in San Diego, one of my best friends traveled from NYC to visit me. After the usual flurry of hugs and squealing (yeah, we are so those people in airports) we walked past a full length mirror. I had to laugh – her, in head to toe black (right down to the oversized Chanel-esque sunglasses), ready to rumble. Me, in a floral border print vintage dress bursting with color, with the lace of my crinoline peeking out slyly underneath my skirt, positively bubbling over with girlie 1950’s frockery. This could be why people mistakenly think I’m a pushover. Au contraire…

Funnily enough, though, NYC is probably one of my favorite cities in the world. I wouldn’t mind boarding a plane right now…finding myself at JFK in about 36 hours. I’d call my family and have them meet me for dinner. I’d take in a show, visit some of the world’s most amazing vintage shops like New York Vintage in Chelsea, or drool over vintage Chanel (at a respectful distance) at What Goes Around Comes Around in Soho. Stroll around The Village, grab one of those wildly addictive frozen iced chocolates from Serendipity, and breath in the life of the city.

I’m having such an amazing week off. I think my body and soul needed it in equal amounts. Thus far the only unpleasantry has been a filling yesterday that I’ve been putting off, but there’s still something so satisfying about ticking things off of my To Do list that have been neglected due to the hectic nature of life. I’m off to meet a friend for lunch and some vintage hunting…fingers crossed for hidden treasures!

How are you going on that whole “me time” thing??

xoxo
