Daisy Jean Floral: As A Cat Does…

Daisy Jean Floral: As A Cat Does... - The Dressed Aesthetic

There are few things that can make me happier than accessories. And though I’m not as on my game when it comes to things like earrings (nickel allergy) or rings (way too many shark dissections to make that practical), brooches are my jam. I think the word “brooch” tends to conjure up images of old ladies and doilies. Au contraire. There is a whole world of quirky, whimsical, fabulous brooches to take your outfit from mundane to magical. And I was so beyond excited to get to work with Daisy Jean Floral on this post, who’s brooch designs are too…

No Apologies Necessary

No Apologies Necessary - The Dressed Aesthetic

Lately I’ve noticed I start every email with some variant of, “Apologies for my delayed reply…” or “I’m so sorry I haven’t written in awhile!” Every phone call, every coffee date, even text messages these days have a standard-letter intro in the form of an apology. I noticed it runs rampant across my fellow bloggers as well – and endless string of apologies as to why we haven’t been able to post regularly, respond to comments fast enough. I’d personally like to start a movement where all of these apologies STOP.

{Review} Bad Moon Rising: Annie Night Sky Print Swing Dress

{Review} Bad Moon Rising: Annie Night Sky Print Swing Dress - The Dressed Aesthetic

I must admit, I’m not one who gets all that into Halloween. Don’t get me wrong, I love to dress up and can carve pumpkins with the best of ’em. But, when it comes to fashion, my heart doesn’t skip a beat for skull prints or cobwebs. I’ve always hated horror movies, avoid haunted houses like the plague, and derive no pleasure from being scared out of my whits. So, when I see a dress that is uber Halloween-specific, I’ll often pass it by in favor of one that can be styled for spooky purposes, but can also be worn…

Lucky Bug

Lucky Bug - The Dressed Aesthetic

I am not a gal who can resist a novelty print. Especially one you can’t quite see what it is until you get up close. It’s imbued with a sort of magic – as if it has a hidden secret you can only whisper in close proximity. I’ve seen this amazing clover dress with those magical, sporadic ladybugs a few times now in my vintage adventures. And yet, it was never quite right. She was either way too small or I was way too slow. And because I’m a believer in vintage karma, I knew I just had to wait…

Feeling Crabby

Feeling Crabby - The Dressed Aesthetic

More often than not, we don’t really have a choice about a certain set of circumstances. We’re usually thrown into a situation without warning – everything from a waitress bringing us the wrong order to payroll screwing up our paycheck. And though we don’t get to choose our frustrating moments, we do get to choose how we respond to them. I’m completely smitten with this dress – but oh how we had a few ups and downs before we were finally able to see eye to eye. Grab a glass of wine and settle in for the story of My Journey…

Just My Type

Just My Type - The Dressed Aesthetic

None of us ever want to admit we have a type. No matter how much our friends say we’re predictable, we want to believe that we’re all open minded and never shallow enough as to gravitate towards a formulaic list of characteristics. And yet, when you look back at your track record, chances are there is an inevitable pattern…

Hat’s Off

Hat's Off - The Dressed Aesthetic

I’ve never really been a hat person. There are a million reasons for this, not the least of which is my abnormally large head (I swear, most hats sit on top of my head. Literally, perched). Truth is, I’ve never been a fan of how I looked in hats. I’ve branched out a few times for the perfect vintage hat (case in point), but it’s definitely been a fashion category I have yet to fully exploit.

Your Own Brand of Fabulous: Reviewing Unique Vintage

Your Own Brand of Fabulous: Reviewing Unique Vintage - The Dressed Aesthetic

When readers email me and ask for advice, I’m more than happy to give my opinion. More often than not, it’ll turn into a post of some sort: my favorite crinolines or my makeup must-haves. Well, lately the running theme seems to be: where can I get the vintage look in modern sizes? And whether you love vintage but want a few vintage-inspired pieces to mix in to your wardrobe, or you love the look but don’t have the time to put into the care true vintage requires, or you’ve become a bit frustrated with your favorite vintage-inspired retailers: this is the…

Free at Last!

Free at Last - The Dressed Aesthetic

Well, I can hardly believe it, but I survived my first semester as a fully fledged professor! I gave my last lecture on Wednesday, and feel as though I’m completely justified in racing around bellowing, “Free at last! Free at Last!” There are no words to describe the madness of moving across the world, learning a completely new city, starting a completely new job, and being thrust into two completely new courses. Let’s just say the word “new” is going to be a bit taboo around here for awhile (unless, of course, the word “new” is followed by “dress”, “shoes”,…
