When I was young, Sunday was Candy Day. We weren’t allowed to eat candy any other day of the week, so this day was held with a special reverence. On Candy Day, my sister and I would be given 50 cents a piece and were allowed to traipse two blocks to a local general store. Even though the selection never changed, we spent ages poring over the choices every time. Candy, gum, chocolate – before you officially made your selection, there was always this unbridled anticipation in knowing you could have anything in the aisle.
A colleague and friend shared a meme the other day that popped up in my social media feed. Back in a time long long ago, in a world far far away where we could go outside and stand next to people, I remember dashing through the supermarket one afternoon. I think I was grabbing a few things on my way back to the lab, without thinking too much about who was around me other than beelining for the essentials and getting back to work.
This past weekend, Mr. Dressedapp and I celebrated Valentine’s Day. While this holiday usually involves us getting dressed to the nines and hitting the town, we obviously had to modify our tradition and had a chill night in with fondue and champagne (no one here is complaining!). In other news related to Woman Plans, Universe Laughs, I had also hoped to unveil my latest Valentine’s Day themed circle skirt this week in honor of the Big Event…but we’ve been rained out for weeks which doesn’t show signs of stopping.
Well, what a year this has been. Safe to say it ended up the way NONE of us would have expected when we turned the calendar to January 2020. I can hardly believe that the entire world can literally turn upside down in such a short timespan. Never before has a year moved so glacially slow and at warp speed at the same time…
It’s hard to believe it, but it’s that time of year again. This has been such a strange year in so many respects…but one thing that will never change: time just keeps on moving forward. I barely blinked and here we were, at the dawn of December again.
I can get so committed to my love of appliqué circle skirts, that sometimes I forget how much fun it can be to make a beautiful dress. It always a good idea to flex your creative muscles now and then and step outside of that trusty circle skirt comfort zone.
