Nothing Gold Can Stay

Nothing Gold Can Stay - The Dressed Aesthetic

Robert Frost is and will probably forever be one of my favorite poets of all time. His poetry has popped up at very key moments in my life; I even used one of his works in the frontispiece of my PhD. Needles to say, Frosty and I are old friends. One of his iconic works “Nothing Gold Can Stay” speaks to how fleeting everything is, particularly the most perfect and meaningful things in our lives.

Prohibition

How was everyone’s Christmas Day? Ours was fill of gifts and love and I ate more food than I care to confess (my Christmas dress didn’t last too long before the red and green striped pajamas were brought forth!) Mr. Dressed and I have fully let the holidays roll on over here and have sat under the gaze of our Christmas tree most of the weekend, barely leaving our pajamas and reveling in the happiness only true relaxation can bring.

Very Merry

Very Merry - The Dressed Aesthetic

I hear those sleigh bells jingling, ring-ting-tingling here! From our Dressed family to yours – wishing you a merry, sparkly, love-filled holiday season. I’m unspeakably grateful to you all for following along with my fashionable adventures this year – that’s been the best Christmas gift a vintage-loving gal can ask for.

Frock On

Frock On - The Dressed Aesthetic

Okay, we all know I love to dress up. I get fancy for a Tuesday. So I practically start to quiver with excitement when I get to get seriously frocked up. And not run-of-the-mill, simply wearing a dress fancy. I’m talking: Glitter. Tulle. Heels so high I become Amazonian. Eyeshadow so glittery I am mistaken for a disco ball. Skirts so poofy they need their own zip code. That level of fancy. Because standing under the mistletoe, welcoming the jolly fat guy in a red suit, ringing in the new year – these are not things to be taken lightly…

Do, a Deer

Do, A Deer - The Dressed Aesthetic

I have a soft spot for fashion that looks like it may have one day been someone’s sofa. This can include items of clothing, handbags, or shoes. Basically, if it could have just as easily been the fabric destined for an armchair or victorian draperies, I’m sold (Seriously, those Von Trapp’s had it right). I love brocades and tapestry and heavy, luscious fabrics. There’s just something about the weight of them that speaks to bygone eras…

Bright Lights, Big City

Bright Lights, Big City - The Dressed Aesthetic

I’ve done a fair bit of traveling in my life, and have lived in some weird and wonderful places. From the bright lights of Boston all the way to a tiny fishing village in New Zealand, back to sunny San Diego and then across to peaceful Perth. And although I would never call myself a City Girl, because I love the outdoors too much, there is just something about the pace of a bustling metropolis that feels so invigorating.

Rumor Has It

Rumor Has It - The Dressed Aesthetic

When I stumbled upon this dress, the title on her etsy listing read “Rumor Has It” and it stuck with me. Now whenever I wear her, I can’t ever seem to get Adele out of my head. But I actually rather enjoy it, because I’ve always found that life is much better with a soundtrack. Don’t you wish that life existed the way it does in the movies, where a trained professional always plays the perfect track at the perfect time? The happy music swells during joyful moments, a romantic tune kicks in right before the kiss, and I would pay attention…

I’ve Got My Eye on You

I've Got My Eye on You - The Dressed Aesthetic

Every now and then, certain items catch my eye and I can’t get them out of my head. And generally, those items involve glitter. You know the drill – you see something amazing and talk yourself out of it. Reasons ranging from ‘it’s not quite the right shade of blue’ or ‘you’re not sure it’s practical’ all the way to another desperate attempt to put yourself on a spending binge. My weak resistance flowed like lava from the Inevitability Volcano. Oh, I can come up with excuses like the best of ’em (I’m also rather skilled at coming up with rationalizations. A…

Poppy Fields Forever

My love of scenic prints knows no bounds. I have a particularly soft spot for photo realistic prints, and as Spring is looming here in Australia, flowers are blooming and so is my wardrobe. The bright red poppies on this Chicwish skirt just sing out for warm weather and skipping through fields and falling asleep in the shade of your favorite tree. Naturally a conversation about poppies turns my mind to the Wizard of Oz and the closer I look, I realized I have an deconstructed, Dorothy-themed outfit, complete with ruby slippers and a hot air balloon brooch (I swear, sometimes…
