Creepy Crawlies

Creepy Crawlies - The Dressed Aesthetic

I am not a huge fan of bugs (understatement, understatement). Oddly enough, rodents don’t even make me bat an eyelash, I have no issues with snakes (so long as they stay on their side of the path), and we all know I have the opposite reaction to most people when it comes to sharks. However, if there is a spider within an arm’s length of my person, I turn into a shrieking, squealing, jumping-on-a-chair mess. It’s not my proudest moment.

We’ll Always Have Paris

We'll Always Have Paris - The Dressed Aesthetic

As we’ve burst forth into a new year, I can’t help but cast a glance back now and then on the year we just bid farewell too. It’s interesting what evokes memories – a smell, a song, a glance at a person’s profile that spins you into a déjà vu moment. I spent a lovely afternoon on Sunday at one of my Perth favorites – Oh Henry Vintage. When I got home, delighting in my spoils (coming soon to a blog post near you), I caught a glimpse of another dress from Oh Henry that I hadn’t worn in awhile. I…

{Review} Cats on a Wire: Introducing Modern Millie

A few weeks ago, one of my trusted vintage sellers, Modern Millie, contacted me about an exciting new adventure: They were launching their very own bonafide website! I’ve purchased a few swoonworthy vintage dresses from Modern Millie in the past (see one of my favorite acquisitions here) and even better, I’ve been lucky enough to visit their brick and mortar.

Beachy Keen

Beauty Keen - The Dressed Aesthetic

I’m sure I’m not the only one who wakes up on occasion and just wishes that, instead of work, I could go to the beach instead. Now, I know what you’re all thinking: “Ummm…aren’t you a marine biologist? Don’t you work at the beach?” I have a sad reality to confess (especially to any younguns out there who dream of becoming a marine biologist so they can spend their days sunbathing and swimming with dolphins): Although I hate to rain on the Awesome Job Fantasy Parade, most of the time we sad seafarers are in the lab looking down a microscope…

She Sells Seashells By the Seashore

She Sells Seashells - The Dressed Aesthetic

The ocean is and will forever be in my blood. Ever since I was a kid, you simply couldn’t get me out of the waves. And I grew up in New England, where the sea is not known for being a friend to those of us who like to avoid hypothermia. Even still, I would swim until my fingers became pruney and I was nearly cooked like a lobster in the sun, simultaneously shivering from the cold. But, I loved it. And through to adulthood, whenever I was having a terrible day, I would find solace in the ocean and throw my…

{Favorites}: Never Mind November... - The Dressed Aesthetic

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I made major progress on my Christmas shopping this weekend. Is there anything quite as satisfying as checking things off of a list? Not for this girl. There were so many amazing deals swirling around my favorite shops – it was exactly the motivation I needed! If you haven’t seen it, my comprehensive list of Black Friday/Cyber Monday post is chock full of sales from my favorite vintage-inspired and vintage shops. Most of them are good through end of day Monday, 30 November, so get in while it’s hot!

Sea Angel (+ Black Friday sales)

Sea Angel - The Dressed Aesthetic

My love of the hea knows no bounds. I’ve always had a lifelong passion for the ocean and all of it’s undersea inhabitants – I think I announced when I was 5 that I was going to be an ichthyologist who studies sharks (no really, I’m serious). So, it’s no surprise I’m amassing quite the collection of vintage novelty seaside prints. I pretty much can’t resist them (case in point here). Every time I find one it unleashes a new wave of childhood joy.

Favorites: Over & Out, October

Favorites: Over & Out, October - The Dressed Aesthetic

The end of October notoriously marks the spookiest time of the year. I remember how much I used to love Halloween as a kid. My sister and I would usually play a part in making our costumes – store-bought costumes were never for us.  One year my mom made me the most amazing marshmallow costume that I was ridiculously proud of – until some of my sister’s friends threatened to toast me. It wasn’t so fun after that… can’t say that any ghosts or goblins have come out to play recently, but there’s definitely been my fair share of scenic…

Spring Forward, Fall Back

Fall Forward - The Dressed Aesthetic

To pay homage to all of your Northern Hemisphere folks and the glorious crisp weather you’re experiencing, I’ve decided to fall splendidly into autumn today! I’ve actually spied this dress popping up a fair bit around the interwebs lately – like there was a leaf-shaped bat symbol projected into the sky calling this dress to come out of her various places of hiding. Do you ever notice that happens a lot? As if thinking about a certain dress or speaking her name aloud shifts something in the universe, shaking her sisters out of the branches…

Favorites: Auspicious August

I was in a “word of the day” sort of mood when I was writing this post, and thought the word Auspicious summed up this past month perfectly, which generally means characterized by success; prosperous. I’m a big fan of the “small wins” concept, which means you don’t only celebrate the big obvious things that are dripping with notoriety, but rather take the time to congratulate yourself on the little things as well.
