Schrödinger’s Dress

There’s this thought puzzle known as Schrödinger’s cat. It’s based around a ridiculously complex quantum physics paradox, but the basic idea is that, if a cat were in a sealed box with a vial of poison, there is a point of unknown, at which the cat is simultaneously alive and dead, yet neither dead nor alive. When you look into the box, clearly it’s one or the other. But there’s always that moment before you know, where hope remains both alive and dead until that box is opened.

Black Magic

Black Magic - The Dressed Aesthetic

Sometimes, a gal needs to pull out all of the stops and be a bit bewitching. Especially on a Friday when the fanciest frocks come out to play. As you know, I am a huge fan of color and am a veritable rainbow the majority of the time. Just this morning, I was an explosion of pastels. But, there’s something about having the perfect black dress in your wardrobe – it can be a bit of a game changer. And this one – a 1950’s liquid satin, with her delicate and stitched appliqué and covered buttons frolicking up each arm – has…

Rumor Has It

Rumor Has It - The Dressed Aesthetic

When I stumbled upon this dress, the title on her etsy listing read “Rumor Has It” and it stuck with me. Now whenever I wear her, I can’t ever seem to get Adele out of my head. But I actually rather enjoy it, because I’ve always found that life is much better with a soundtrack. Don’t you wish that life existed the way it does in the movies, where a trained professional always plays the perfect track at the perfect time? The happy music swells during joyful moments, a romantic tune kicks in right before the kiss, and I would pay attention…

I’ve Got My Eye on You

I've Got My Eye on You - The Dressed Aesthetic

Every now and then, certain items catch my eye and I can’t get them out of my head. And generally, those items involve glitter. You know the drill – you see something amazing and talk yourself out of it. Reasons ranging from ‘it’s not quite the right shade of blue’ or ‘you’re not sure it’s practical’ all the way to another desperate attempt to put yourself on a spending binge. My weak resistance flowed like lava from the Inevitability Volcano. Oh, I can come up with excuses like the best of ’em (I’m also rather skilled at coming up with rationalizations. A…

Poppy Fields Forever

My love of scenic prints knows no bounds. I have a particularly soft spot for photo realistic prints, and as Spring is looming here in Australia, flowers are blooming and so is my wardrobe. The bright red poppies on this Chicwish skirt just sing out for warm weather and skipping through fields and falling asleep in the shade of your favorite tree. Naturally a conversation about poppies turns my mind to the Wizard of Oz and the closer I look, I realized I have an deconstructed, Dorothy-themed outfit, complete with ruby slippers and a hot air balloon brooch (I swear, sometimes…

No Place Like Home

No Place Like Home - The Dressed Aesthetic

One of the hardest things to do after a blissful holiday is to get your head wrapped around the concept of ‘real life’ again. It was a bit scary how quickly I adapted to no internet, no set schedule, and a life that didn’t require shoes. Safe to say that by the end of our stay at the Octopus Resort on Waya Island in Fiji, I was pretty reluctant to check my emails and get back to the daily grind. Once I was back, though, I admit it was pretty nice to curl up in my own bed, pick up Willie…

Frills & Thrills

There’s nothing that makes my heartbeat quicken with quite as much commitment as the word Tulle. Tulle dresses, tulle skirts, tulle trim… Floaty and feminine, speaking to sun drenched fantasy and candlelit dinners and twirling around a twinkling ballroom. Also speaking to, you know, Fridays. Cause I haven’t met a Friday yet that didn’t require a bit of whimsy…

Sundae Best

When I was young, I remember very vividly the dresses that were saved for a special occasion. The dresses that lay tucked towards the back of the wardrobe, to brought out on holidays, when the day took on a certain reverence. My favorites were always my Easter dresses. Usually some combination of velvet and tulle, those dresses really epitomized the concept of Sunday Best.

Faerie Lights

Given the amount of traveling I’ve done in my life, I realized I’ve spent nearly a decade in the Southern Hemisphere. The majority of my time has been in Australia and New Zealand, and while they are both thankfully English speaking countries, I swear they need to come complete with a translation guide. My recent trip to New Zealand this past week had me reaching into the recesses of my brain for the kiwi colloquialisms I once knew so well, even though it had been nearly a decade since I’d lived there.

For the Greater Good

I have finally returned from my travels around Middle Earth! It was an absolutely amazing trip and I’m brimming over with the things we saw and the places we visited. As fun as traveling is though, it’s always nice to come home and see our furry dudes and hug the entirety of my closet like an old friend. It’s also nice to get back to a regular blogging schedule again, which I was surprised by how much I missed.
