I know, I know – this is not a dress! What’s going on? Who am I and what have I done with myself? Dear readers, very occasionally, the unthinkable happens and something other than a vintage dress jumps upon my person. Fear not, for my love for dresses hasn’t waned in the slightest, but a few years back I saw this adorable butterfly print romper and I made an exception to the magnetic pull on my heart that whispers, “Dress! Dress! Dress!”
It’s never a good idea to get stuck in a fashion rut (something I always tell myself). And I have to say, I’ve never been happier with a bit of a risk than when this silky romper graced my wardrobe. Granted, I don’t reach for her every day. But, it’s a comfort to know that she hangs in my closet, hands folded, waiting patiently for the day when I’m feeling a bit cheekier than normal. And when I have reached for her, I’ve learned an amazing thing: Rompers are just like dresses. Except, with the ability to climb trees and do other running, jumping, active-type things. (Not that I’ve actually climbed a tree in this romper or run in these heels. But, you know, the option is always there).

The weather has been turning crisp here in Australia, which means the jackets are coming out of the cupboard. I have to say, I LOVE the creativity that cooler weather affords. Suddenly layering becomes a biological necessity with the added bonus of flexing my creative fashion muscles. Even better when the layers in question come complete with embroidery, ruffled lace, crushed velvet, or a bustle (Yes. This jacket actually has a bustle. It’s a happy day in my heart).
I’ve got a bit of a nail biting meeting tomorrow, where I’m running a workshop to discuss potential research opportunities across disciplines and ways we might bring in additional funds by thinking outside of the square. And I am in charge of the laser pointer. Actually, I’m in charge of the whole thing, but we all know that she who holds the laser pointer holds the power. Really, I could burn your retinas should you cross me (see, I told you this romper makes me cheeky…)
Sending you all a bit of cheekiness for whatever this week may hold!
xoxo
