Analog

Analog - The Dressed Aesthetic

I will very likely be dating myself here, but something I have always been grateful for is being one of the last generations to grow up analog. Truly, the internet wasn’t really a thing in my teen years. Home computers had only just started to become normal, cordless phones were the newfangled modern technology (call waiting? What?!!), and to get the movie times you had to dial a number and drum your fingers on the countertop while a recorded voice droned on through your options.

I was actually able to witness the beginning of so many technological advancements that I can take for granted way too easily. The dial up modem. The advent of social media. The first iPhone, where pinch and zoom wasn’t instinctual. I used to watch cartoons of what felt like the Space Age Future, where people would actually make phone calls via video, and here we are having spent over a year living on Zoom.

But, I still can’t seem to make the transition to a Google Calendar (do NOT try to separate me from a physical daily planner, or so help you). I still believe nothing beats flipping the actual pages of a book. And I sometimes ask my best friends if we can call on the phone rather than FaceTime, because it feels more nostalgic somehow. So, I guess no matter how fast technology zooms forward and what modern convenience will befall us next in this digital world, there will always be a part of me that is just a little bit analog.

B eing such an analog girl, I guess it should come as no surprise that I have a bit of a penchant for things from the past. I appreciate things that require persistence to acquire. Truly, waiting years for this perfect vintage Alix of Miami dress from Victrola Vintage to finally cross my path really isn’t that far off from the over-enthusiastic pre-recorded guy telling me, “Here come…the MOVIE TIMES!” They just take a certain kind of patience. Knowing you will get to the things you need eventually.

Don’t get me wrong – I love my tech. How we ever survived without internet and iPhones I will never know. But I have to admit…I’m kind of glad that I still remember a time when we did.

I guess, we are living in a digital world and I am an analog girl…
