It’s that time of year again, when all of the turkey leftovers have dwindled and Christmas is in full swing! Although most stores here in NC have had Christmas decorations up before Halloween, the holiday spirit doesn’t kick in for me until after Thanksgiving. Mr. Dressed and I spent last Friday in our pajamas, chomping on leftovers and starting to get cracking on our Christmas shopping!
Happy Day After Turkey Day! Mr Dressed and I had an amazing Friendsgiving and are now spending our friday being completely lazy and eating my favorite form of Thanksgiving leftovers: take some of those Pillsbury crescent rolls – put turkey, stuffing, and cranberry sauce into each one and bake. Dip in gravy. Repeat (you’re welcome).

Well, the rumors are true: Kara’s Annual Closet Cleanout has come around the mountain again! Now that we’re starting to see summer in our rear view, I decided it was time to give the ol’ closet a refresh. This meant it was the perfect time to go through my wardrobe and find the beauties that need new homes.
Over the years, I have amassed quite the vintage collection (yeah, no one is surprised). And with that collection comes the responsibility to care for it to ensure its longevity. Now, nobody likes laundry, but cleaning vintage is a necessary evil (even moreso in my southern climate!). On several occasions, I’ve been contacted by many of you lovely would-be collectors about tips for cleaning, steaming, and caring for vintage. Truth be told, it can be a daunting task – so I’ve decided to start a series here on the blog to help you navigate the sudsy waters.
I think we can all fall victim to a bit of Imposter Syndrome – you know, where despite your talent and skill, you feel that you really don’t know anything. Well, that magical time of year is upon us – our girl has turned 4 this month!! I’m always a bit surprised when my blog-a-versary rolls around every year. Sort of like turning a corner and smacking into someone you didn’t expect to be there. As my blog’s birthday also coincides with my own, it is high time for some good old fashioned celebrations!
One of the biggest buzzes I get is spotting a vintage ad for the garments I own. In some weird way, although they’re made of fabric and I can actually hold them in my hand, vintage somehow still feels unreal – like it could disappear at any moment. But, when you see the ad for the dress, there’s something that takes it from the abstract and into someone’s living room. A thing that existed in a shop window or a catalogue. It’s not a piece of the past, but was once very much a piece of someone’s present.
Have you ever been walking down the street or browsing on Insta, and seen someone come into your peripheral view that makes you stop. That makes you whip your head around and think to yourself, “That’s who I want to be when I grow up.” And not for a tangible reason. But for all of the intangible, critically important reasons you can’t put your finger on. An inner confidence that comes out of every pore. A quiet strength in embracing exactly who they are. A certain joie de vivre that beams right at you like the Care Bear Stare, filling…
Happy New Year! Well, here we are yet again, at the start of another year. It feels like on the dawn of a New Year, we should be full of Big Thoughts and Big Plans. But, I have to admit I’ve been enjoying a LOT of down time.
