You know how the story goes: Your eyes lock across a crowded room. Your heartbeat quickens, your palms get sweaty, you lose all power of speech. You had read about this feeling before but never experienced it yourself. And suddenly there it is. Your heart swells and moonlight floods your soul. You see the universe and all of it’s possibilities and realize this is the moment when your life will never be the same. And I’m not talking about boy-meets-girl. I’m talking about girl-meets-dress.
Ahhh if there ever was a match made in heaven, it was me and this vintage dress. There are a lot of dresses I peruse on Etsy that I think are lovely and bookmark to return to. But every once in awhile, there’s a dress that makes me gasp and the world comes to a screeching halt. Everything about this fuchsia and white dress from Ruby Fayes Vintage was gasp-worthy – the nipped waist and full skirt, the single bow at the bust, the perfect pattern-matched panels that arc and curve and hug the full circle skirt. Needless to say, a vintage-loving demon took over my body and hit ‘purchase” without even thinking (and I’m not really mad at her for it. The demon has good taste…).
When I saw you I fell in love.
And you smiled because you knew.

Some of the best decisions I made in my life happened when I just went with my gut. When it wasn’t necessarily logical, but something about it just felt right. It’s funny to me how we always question our gut. I remember knowing within the first week of dating Mr. Dressed that I would marry him…then chastised myself for being so silly (and spent the next two years proving my gut right. My gut was a bit smug, to be honest).
At the end of the day, our instincts are the best tools we have to steer us towards what is right for us. And that could be anything. Walking away from a situation that you want so badly to work, but you know isn’t. Taking the next step in a relationship because your heart deems it so. Taking a leap and accepting a job on the other side of the world. Even the simple act of clicking purchase on a dress. And honestly? I haven’t regretted a single one.
Where is your gut steering you this week?
xoxo
