{Review} Pool Shark: Cheers Street Billiard Box Bag - The Dressed Aesthetic

I’ve never had an aptitude much for bar games. You know, things like darts or pinball. I always had high hopes for pool, given I fancied myself a science nerd (and we know pool is allll about the physics). But, no matter how many evenings were spent over a pint and a cue stick, I just never seemed to manage to do much more besides click the cue around the table (and occasionally off the table, as the case may be).

While it’s safe to say I won’t be adding Pool Shark to my resume any time soon (I’ll stick with the real ones…), pool hall fashion I can definitely get behind. As soon as I saw Vendula London’s Cheers Street range, I immediately started cooing over the green felt table and mini billiard balls, as if someone (not me) could pick up a cue and clear the table…

So when they reached out asking for my thoughts on the Cheers Street Billiard Box Bag, I was more than happy to grab the chalk and rack em up….

Given my growing collection of Vendula Bags (case in point here and here for some favs), I was already expecting high quality whimsy. But I have to tell you – the Cheers Street Billiard Box Bag is cute beyond what I even imagined it could be. It’s lunchbox-esque in shape – 17.5cm H x 21.5cm W x 7.5cm D, in a printed and embossed, vegan leather. I am definitely all about the novelty bag, and this really doesn’t disappoint – the billiard balls are scattered across the table, as if in mid-play, and there are even adorable embroidered cue sticks. I also got the key charm that looks like a pool ball rack – which puts the 8-ball in the pocket, in my opinion.

I’m a self-proclaimed small handbag gal, and I find this to be plenty roomy to fit the essentials. It comes with a detachable shoulder strap – though I’m personally unlikely to use it because I prefer a handbag, I love that it comes with versatility to make it a crossbody. I miss the little stud feet on the bottom that are on many of their designs – but if this is designed to be a crossbody it’s likely they didn’t imagine it being set down much.

My favorite feature has to be the full backgammon board on the back (which, let’s be honest, I have a FAR better shot of winning at). I love when a bag can do double duty. Plus, if I’m ever bored….

I had big plans to take this photoshoot to an actual pool hall – the weather has simply not been cooperating, and every option was dark on even the brightest day. But, I’ve decided this year is about not sweating the small stuff, so I can fight for the Big Stuff. Safe to say these are really challenging times – I will take the joy where it finds me, keep the hope as much as I can, and never, ever, ever surrender to the Gamemakers who try to tell us we are powerless.

If part of the joy you’re holding onto involves novelty bags, Vendula has so many amazing styles at the moment, which includes the Cheers Street Billiard box bag (retailing for ~$157 USD) and the Rack It Up Keychain (retailing for ~$32 USD) and many other styles in the Cheers Street theme – if anything catches your eye, use the code DRESSEDAPP26, to snag yourself 12% off any full priced item!

Last week was a pretty big week for me, as the Department voted on my promotion to Full Professor. The irony is, outside of academia that means nothing. But in my little microcosm, it means the world.

Cheers to all of you and the wins (big and small).

xoxo
