{Review} Introducing Splendette - The Dressed Aesthetic

Like most women I know, I’ve got a thing for accessories. And because my penchant veers towards things of the past, I’m always on the hunt for beautiful vintage pieces that won’t break the bank. Unfortunately, this is becoming harder and harder, particularly for those stunning carved bakelite bangles. So, you can imagine how excited I was when I discovered Splendette, a vintage-inspired jewelry brand that makes stunning bangles with matching earrings, necklaces and rings of the midcentury persuasion…

Having seen their wares on many of my favorite fellow bloggers, I was really excited when they contacted me about styling some of their pieces for the blog. I love their bevy of options for bangles, which can be mixed and matched and stacked for days. Plus, as a gal who is always a sucker for a unique color combo, I love the idea of mixing colors and prints and coming up with a style that is uniquely me…

I opted to go for a selection of bangles and matching necklace from the blue family – as much of my wardrobe veers blue, I knew I would have no issues with styling. I loved playing with different sizes, textures, patterns (and yes, glitter), to stack to my hearts content. In the end, I went for quite a range and embraced my love of mixing prints and taking names…

In my perusal of their site, I learned that Splendette caters for different size wrists, which I found unbelievably refreshing. They offer their beautiful bangles in small maiden fit (5.8cm wrist diameter), regular fit (6.5cm diameter), and larger duchess fit (7.5cm diameter). My inclination would have normally been to go for the maiden fit (I have woefully tiny wrists). But, thanks to their handy fit guide, the regular size suited me perfectly. Sure enough, my bangles arrived and they slid on without issue, but were the perfect diameter and stayed put (no one wants a bangle they have to fight to keep on their wrist all day). I definitely recommend taking out the tape measure to see the size that works best for you – measuring an existing bangle you feel fits you perfectly will help you on your way to the perfect size.

I then paired my stacks of bangles with the golden teal Fakelite Necklace for the perfect finishing touch. As someone who knows her way around bakelite, these bangles are pretty amazing. The carved pieces are beautiful and intricate, and I loved the printed quality of the creme, with shoots of teal. I’m also obsessed with the dimensional quality of the pieces – they seemed to take on different hues with each angle. And when they describe their pieces as “glitter” they aren’t kidding. I nearly blinded Mr. Dressed during this photo shoot, which is sort of the yardstick I like use to judge all of my bling.

Although in the past I’ve generally been a one bracelet per wrist kind of gal, I can very easily see myself becoming addicted to Splendette. These will most certainly be getting a heavy rotation in my wardrobe (I also wore them yesterday. And maybe the day before that. eh hem). There’s something calming about the way the bangles click together as I go about my day, offering tiny whispers of encouragement, like those mood beads that help you find your zen. And let’s be honest – if there’s one way to find my zen, it’s through splendid accessories…

The range of bangles I’m sporting (and may be sporting till the end of time, until they pry them off of me) also comes in a variety of other colors. If your heart belongs to another color story, they have sets in pinks, purples, grey, and greens (and sunshine yellow, I’ve got my eye on you) – you can also buy a set if you’re nervous to try your hand at mixing. It’s pretty easy to start your collection small, and then just let the bangle-loving demon within take over.

I also find them to be really reasonably priced for the quality – each bangle will range from £4.50-£5.00 for a narrow bangle up to £9.50 for some of the wider varieties. Considering these beauties are all handmade (with each piece carefully carved – the details are stunning), you are getting an incredible deal for this kind of quality. Much like the vintage that has my heart, each piece is truly unique.

Now that my bangle-loving demon and I are on excellent terms, we’re grabbing our tote and hitting the ground running. I have a ton of meetings today and hope to finish off the week strong. For some reason, this cold just won’t quit, so I hope to check off my To Do list and head home to my pajamas.

Now that sounds pretty splendid…
