Guess what folks, my birthday is just around the corner! Okay, it’s really over a month away, but because my family has to contend with overseas shipping times, this is the time of year when I start to put thought into my birthday wants. Not to mention that Valentine’s Day in in just a few weeks. Both of those concepts natural lend themselves to endless web browsing and wishlist creation!
I’m sure I’m not the only one who wakes up on occasion and just wishes that, instead of work, I could go to the beach instead. Sometimes, just thinking about the history of ideas can give me goosebumps. To imagine the things that were once societally accepted as fact, until someone’s crazy, outside-of-the-box idea challenged it. To be there on the day someone bravely raised their hand, amidst the sneers and rotten tomatoes lobbed there way, and said, “Err…come on guys.” There was a time when everyone accepted the world was flat. That the sick could be heeled by bleeding them. That smoking had no adverse health effects. That Donald Trump was an acceptable presidential candidate. Come on guys.
Though a bit of a departure from my normal fit and flare silhouette, sometimes a gal needs a skirt that hugs her curves. I’ve had this Bettie Page pencil skirt for years and it always seems to find its way off of the shelf and into my arms on days when I need to earn a few gold stars. I don’t know why, but there’s something about today’s outfit that just screams “Apple for Teacher.” If that won’t earn me gold stars, I don’t know what will.
Do you ever have items in your wardrobe that you completely forget about? 2016 is here! We had an amazing night out at Amani Bar & Kitchen on NYE, ringing in the New Year with cocktails, gangstas and a LOT of feathers flying everywhere (it was a Prohibition party. You could barely see through the feather boas). Now, we’re well into the New Year and I’m still well into my vacation! I’ve been indulging in a LOT of relaxing, some vintage hunting, catching up on a massive sewing and repair pile, and getting blog posts organized for the new year. If only every day were like vacation, I would seriously be the most productive person…
How was everyone’s Christmas Day? Ours was fill of gifts and love and I ate more food than I care to confess (my Christmas dress didn’t last too long before the red and green striped pajamas were brought forth!) Mr. Dressed and I have fully let the holidays roll on over here and have sat under the gaze of our Christmas tree most of the weekend, barely leaving our pajamas and reveling in the happiness only true relaxation can bring.
We’re entering into such a unique time of the year, where relaxation starts to rein triumphant. Since the start of December, I can feel everyone’s resistance slowly wearing, as work gives up her fight to the temptations of a relaxing Christmas holiday. There are more holiday parties, emptier hallways as the weeks wear on, and a general fading of the frenzied cloud of productivity that usually hangs over our building. I think it’s important in this day and age, where all I seem to see are ladies in competition with each other, to instead lift one another up and celebrate the awesomeness that comes into our orbit.
I have a soft spot for fashion that looks like it may have one day been someone’s sofa. This can include items of clothing, handbags, or shoes. Basically, if it could have just as easily been the fabric destined for an armchair or victorian draperies, I’m sold (Seriously, those Von Trapp’s had it right).
